Man Arrested for Cyberstalking

A man was arrested after allegedly cyberstalking a female UCF student by calling her over 30 times after being blocked and threatening to show up at her apartment, an arrest affidavit states.

William Newlon, 21, was arrested Aug. 20, after the 19-year-old victim he had matched with on the dating app Hinge reported cyberstalking to the UCF Police Department, the affidavit said.

Newlon, who goes by the alias "Billy" according to the affidavit, knew the victim's home address through location sharing on Snapchat, the app the two had been using to text each other since the middle of June.

Florida lawmakers announced that they would be temporarily delaying political ideology surveys at state universities on Sept. 13.According to state lawmakers, the Intellectual Freedom and Viewpoint Diversity Surveys for the State University System of Florida were delayed until spring 2024 due to a newly-passed bill that pushed back reporting deadlines from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31.
